History

The Indian School Ibri was established in 1989 though the groundwork started much before 1989. In 1987 a group of eminent Indians at Ibri; Dr. R.R. Nair, Mr. K.U. Majeed, Mr. K.V Menon, Mr.A.K.Ahmmed and Mr. Ramesh Bhat, got together and decided to start a School for the Indian Community at Ibri and it got materialized in 1989.

  • With 4 teachers & 45 students the School started its journey in 1989 in a small building.
  • Under the able leadership of Dr. R.R. Nair, The SMC decided to go for a new School building as the one where the School was running then was not sufficient. Site for new building was identified in 1993. The School is situated in the same premises today, which was identified by Mr. T.S. Daniel, the former President of the School Management Committee.
  • The School has been organizing the Arts Festival, the festival of talents since 1993 in order to unveil and nurture the latent talents of its pupils.
  • Shifted to the new School building in August 1994.
  • School got affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education in 1995.
  • Introduced Computer studies for students in 1995.
  • Introduced Bharat Scouts & Guides in 1997.
  • In 1997, our School won the Kalaprathibha trophy in the Inter-School Arts Festival organized by Indian School Muladha.
  • School auditorium was built in 1998.
  • Organized Inter School Arts Festival “Insaf” in 1998, in which nearly 300 students participated from all over Oman. Almost all the Indian Schools participated in the festival.
  • First batch of Class X students was sent for the CBSE exam in March 1999.
  • New block of the school building was inaugurated in May 1999.
  • New library hall was set up in 1999.
  • Science lab was upgraded in 1999.
  • Special KG playground was made in 2000
  • In the year 2000, Inter School Quiz Contest was organized.
  • As the student strength increased, a new block was constructed in 2003.
  • Labs both Science and Computer got upgraded from time to time, every year.
  • Introduced Kids’ Festival, Festival of talents of KG Children in 2004.
  • Introduced Smart / Digital Classrooms in the Middle Section (from class V to VIII) in the academic year 2009-10.
  • The Indian School Ibri was bestowed with “Ambassador’s Trophy for being the most improved Indian School in the Sultanate of Oman” in May 2009. I S Ibri is the first recipient of the prestigious trophy.
  • A new block consists of a spacious Computer Lab & a few classrooms got constructed in the year 2011.
  • Upgraded to Senior Secondary in April 2011 and started first Batch of Class XI in the academic year 2011-12.
  • Organized First Parents’ Day in January 2012.
  • Received Certificate of Appreciation from the Ministry of Education, Sultanate of Oman in recognition of the contributions in upgrading the Educational process in the Al-Dhahira Governorate.
  • Construction of another new block consists of a few more classrooms got completed in January 2013.
  • First batch of Class XII students appeared for the CBSE Exams in the year 2013.
