India’s 73rd Independence Day was celebrated in the Indian school Ibri campus on 15th of August 2019 with great joy and pride remembering the great leaders who had sacrificed their lives for an independent India. Dr. Thomas Varghese the president of the SMC graced the occasion as the chief guest. Mr. Firoz Husain (Treasurer, SMC), Members of SMC: Dr. Suresh Balakrishnan & Dr. Vijay Shanmugam, Mrs. Sandhya Vijayan former SMC convenor, Principal Mr. V.S. Suresh, Staff, Parents & Students attended the function. Ms. Renjitha, of class XII , in her welcome speech extended a warm welcome to everyone.
The chief guest and the other dignitaries were given a red carpet welcome by the student council. The chief guest during his speech insisted that we were born in an independent country and we don’t understand being governed by a foreign power and take freedom for granted which we got from the sacrifices of great leaders. He urged the students to be united as Indians to forward our country to greater heights. Next, Mr. Suresh, the Principal expounded on the great leaders who struggled and sacrificed their lives for the freedom of our country and emphasized the fact that the future lies in the hands of the youth. At last he instilled in them the spirit of freedom by saying that “Gandhiji taught Indians non violence which later became a noble lesson to the entire world. And also highlighted how India had advanced in science and technology. He exhorted the students to take oath to do their duties and responsibilities to uplift India to greater heights.
Our President of India Ram Nath Kovind’s address to the nation was screened to keep alive the flame of patriotism; students embraced their love for their motherland with a mélange of patriotic songs and dances. Miss. Devika, of class X A proposed the vote of thanks and appreciated everyone for their wholehearted support and cooperation. The entire programme was compered by Ms. Sophia of class IX. The celebrations of the auspicious day came to an end with the distribution of sweets.
