On the 14th December 2019, ISI, hosted its 31st Annual Sports Meet & P T Dispaly on the school campus, a day filled with   excitement and frolicsome atmosphere experienced admist thrills, shrills and cheers renting the air. The program began with a prayer song followed by Royal Anthem and national anthem.

The chief Guest of the day was Engineer. Hamad Bin Khamis Bin Rashid Al Hatmi, President, Ibri Sports Club, who was given a red carpet welcome at the school entrance by the members of the school Management Committee, the principal, the staff and the students and followed by guard of honour by the student council led by the head boy Mast. Abhijay Anoop Nair and the head girl Ms. Lindsey R. Macedo. The chief guest hoisted the school sports flag and declared the 31st Annual Sports meet open by releasing the pigeons as a symbol of peace and serenity. The chief guest accepted the salute of the dazzling march past. Then with the school flag flying  high the contingents comprising of the students of the four houses marched in unison. The Sports Captain administered the oath which instilled a feeling of amiability among the participants. The sports Torch was carried by the head boy and the Head girl of the school and passed on to the captains of four houses and finally passed on to Master Gowri Shankar Manoj, the sports captain and the best athlete of the year 2019-20.

The presence of Dr. Thomas Varghese, president of the school management committee, Dr. Vijay Shanmugam, Mr. Jamal Hassan and the other committee members added colour to the occasion. The august gathering was welcomed by the enchanting words of Mr. V. S. Suresh, principal. Next, the chief guest spoke on the importance of sports and how it enhances teamwork and cooperation. He wholeheartedly thanked everyone for inviting him as a chief guest. This was followed by the SMC president, Dr. Thomas Varghese, who thanked the chief guest for accepting the invitation. He insisted the students that the school is a platform for the students to bring out their  hidden talents and he advised the students that sports is not about winning but it is also about participation, teamwork and sportsmanship which add icing on the cake.

The events filled in the hearts of everyone with the spirit of sportsmanship and unity. The students displayed a wide array of colourful and reverberant events. They mesmerised the audience with their energetic performances. The mass drill by primary and senior students such as Saree drill, Aerobics and pyramid display remained as the main attraction of the mega event. The purpose of these drills is to sharpen students’ abilities and to stay them on task. To watch them doing drill in synchronization was a feast to the eyes. The Parent events such as Tug of war, track events added to the charm with almost all parents exhibiting tremendous amount of zeal and courage to fight to the finish amid cheers from their children.  Medals aren’t really made of gold; they are made of sweat and determination. The much awaited moment of the day, Prize Distribution ceremony was seen with excitement everywhere. It was evident that the students worked hard and gave their best in all the sports events. On this special occasion the chief guest released school’s E-Magazine “Illuminare” to give a platform for the students to express their creativity.

The chief guest congratulated the winners and gave away the prizes. The Blue House clinched the overall championship trophy, the Runner up trophy by the Yellow House. In the marching event, Red House won the first position; Blue House won the second position. Dr. Thomas Varghese, felicitated the chief guest with a memento. The school flag was lowered with dignity and reverence as a sign of closing the current year’s Sports Meet. The Principal officially closed the Sports Meet of the year 2019 after receiving the school flag, to carry on the meet for the coming year 2020. Mr. Kurian Thomas, senior activity coordinator, proposed the vote of thanks.
